Ari Frede & Gail Stern - June 27, 2004

AG_Wedding

Congratulations to Ari and Gail who were wed yesterday in a wonderful ceremony at the Garfield Park Conservatory. Lots of old and new faces and some wonderful stories about the bride and groom told by close friends and family members. We had a great time and were proud to be a part of it all. We're here to support both of you in your journey ahead. Best of luck to you.

One Fine Evening

Old friend Sara (a KCAD alum), and new friend Brenda of Glad Rags in Portland, OR were in town for the All Things Organic trade show at McCormick Place. They came up to Logan Square for a very fine dinner at Lula Cafe where we indulged in various dishes including morel mushroom crepes, sweet potato tagine and black pepper panna cotta with grapefruit and mint. Being big fans of This American Life, Sara and Brenda were pretty excited to be dining in the same room as Mr. Ira Glass. We had a wonderful time with plenty of opportunity to catch up and also chat about our favorite books, music, restaurants and of course, the current instability in the world. We look forward to taking them up on their invite to Portland. Have a safe trip back out west. See you soon.

Richard Spooner Frede - 1934-2004

Sorry to report that our friend, Ari, lost his father this past Friday. Mr. Frede was just a month short of his 70th birthday. Deepest condolences to Ari and his brother, Dov.

I've received loads of traffic from my pal Aaron Draplin after he dropped a link to Halos+Horns on his Draplindustries site. Draplin is a fellow desig-nerd originally from Traverse City who now resides in Portland, Oregon. His visual artistry is often on exhibit at his site but if that ain't enough for ya, look into dropping $5 (or more) on his PayPal to receive a wonderful Once-A-Month Card Set; a whole slew of postcard sized delights, many of which flaunt his Gocco mastery. Plenty of other surprises in there too, but I'm not going to give anything away here. Draplin's a great guy, once described by Jim Coudal as "crusty but benign" and well…well, I don't know what else too say beyond that.

Welcome, Waylon.

Some sad news from the northern country.
Dr. Jim Mudgett died on Wed. Jan 14. My deepest condolences go out to Jayne, Anne and Mrs. Mudgett. A tough way to start the new year, but with love/support from friends and family, I'm sure they'll pull through.
